Cyclone Pam Emergency

In March this year, Vanuatu tragically experienced its most extreme storm in recorded history. Category 5 Cyclone Pam swept through the nation’s South, bringing devastation to more than 60 inhabited islands including Tanna, Santo and Port Vila. 16 people lost their lives and an estimated 45% of the nation’s residents were displaced following storm surge, torrential rain and gale-force winds.

Our in country-partners have been working hard to assist with reconnaissance and community infrastructure repairs. As the recovery phase continues they work closely with government officials, village leaders and local residents to ensure a high level of community consultation and participation.
