Disability Inclusive

As 15% of Pacific Islanders (1 million people) live with a disability, it is impossible for universal education and poverty reduction targets to be met without their inclusion.  In most of these countries, few people with disabilities attend school as children and even fewer can find stable employment as adults.  Not only are disabilities highly stigmatised, but affordable service provision is hard to come by.

This project seeks to contribute to the capacity of regional organisations to promote disability inclusion in all aspects of life.  This will be done by providing small-scale funding within existing partnerships to implement their own advocacy initiatives, and by participating under the umbrella organisation ‘Pacific Disability Forum’ to provide technical and moral support on disability rights issues.

Key Areas of Expenditure:

  • Provincial outreach visits
  • Peer support and technical advice
  • In-country staff and member training
  • International Day of Disability celebrations
  • National and local advocacy and awareness activities
  • Strengthening of in-country organisational capacities (governance, management, administration)
