Natural disasters are inevitable. Strategies of emergency risk reduction can go a long way in building community level resilience against the forces of nature, yet the impact of natural disaster rips right through communities which lack funding and local expertise. Further vulnerability hinges on factors of climate, infrastructure quality, public services, demographic composition and population density. Whilst even the best trained professionals cannot always predict the location, timing or magnitude of nature’s perils, it is only a matter of time before the next state of emergency is declared somewhere on the globe. For this reason WRA has set up this emergency fund to be drawn upon in times of calamity.
